The MEA Board of Directors recently appointed Catharine “Kit” Jones of Palmer to fill a vacancy on the Board created in September by the resignation of David Dahms. She will fill the remainder of his term, which ends in July 2009.
A contract pilot and instructor at Mustang Aviation in Palmer, Jones for 30 years worked for Jack Aircraft Sales in Memphis, Tenn., where she was responsible for accounting duties, office management, ferry and delivery of aircraft and customer checkouts in aircraft.
Mrs. Jones graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis with a bachelor’s in psychology.
She moved to Alaska in 2005 and is treasurer of MEA Ratepayers Alliance, secretary of Mid-Valley Trail Club and a member of Friends of Mat-Su and the Alaska Airmen’s Association.
Jones was one of four applicants the Board interviewed for the position. The other applicants were William “Bill” Tull of Palmer, an attorney and former president of the Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce; Marvin L. Yoder, the deputy administrator of Wasilla and a consultant on energy matters to the city of Galena; and Steven Ranger of Wasilla, the principal engineer with ASRC Energy Service in Anchorage.
Lester said that a fifth applicant, Ralph J. Wardman of Palmer, had requested to postpone his interview to Nov. 1, due to a death in his family. She said she did not grant the postponement.
