MEA News:

High or Low Bill?

This time of year traditionally brings a higher number of inquiries than average regarding members' bills. Your electricity usage may be higher for a number of reasons.

Winter brings colder more severe weather, requiring more energy used for heat tape, space heaters and increased demand of water heaters.

Severe weather conditions or other dangerous circumstances can cause your electric bill to be estimated. If this should happen you will be informed on the bill that the amount was estimated.

Inconsistent bill amounts could be the number of days in between readings. This information is also on your bill in the lower right hand corner in the historical information section.

MEA Billing Supervisor Marian James encourages members to call as soon as you feel there might be a discrepancy in your bill. If you see that the bill was estimated you can go out and read your meter and call a corrected reading into our billing office.

"We also have a packet of information available for members that include energy saving tips, and tests the consumer can do to help identify possible wiring and appliance problems," Marian said.
