MEA News:

Board of Directors

Matanuska Electric Association is owned and operated by its members.

The members elect seven of their own to three-year terms on the Board of Directors, which sets the company’s policies and hires the General Manager. All of the board’s regular monthly meetings are open to the public.

Candidates are selected by the Nominating Committee, a committee of MEA members appointed by the board. Candidates may also be nominated by petition or from the floor at the Annual Membership Meeting, where the election is held in either March or April.

The board elects its own officers in the summer, each of whom serves a one-year term. The 2011-2012 officers are President Lois Lester, Vice President David Glines and Secretary-Treasurer Peter Burchell.

The other board members are Larry DeVilbiss, Bob Doyle, Catherine "Kit" Jones and Janet Kincaid.

Four directors are elected at-large, while three are elected to represent MEA's districts. Mr. DeVilbiss represents the Palmer District; Mr. Doyle represents the Wasilla District; and Mr. Glines represents the Eagle River District.

MEA strives to bring power and service to its more than 56,000 customers at a reasonable price. Because it is a non-profit company, money remaining after satisfying yearly expenses in meeting co-op objectives is either invested in lines and equipment, or returned to the members as capital credits. Capital credits are assigned each year to member-owners in proportion to the amount of electric service they purchase.
