MEA Signs Power Block General Construction Contract with Haskell Corporation » In a significant milestone for its Eklutna Generation Station (EGS) project, on Tuesday, Matanuska Electric Association signed a major contract with Haskell Corporation for general construction of the Power Block portion of the plant. MEA Board of Directors Approves Third Quarter 2013 Rate Adjustment » The Matanuska Electric Association Board of Directors voted on May 13, 2013 to authorize an increase of 0.82 percent in base rates, effective the third quarter of 2013. Regulatory Commission of Alaska Approves Chugach Electric Association’s 42% Base Cost Increase to »Over Matanuska Electric Association’s strong objections, on February 6 the Regulatory Commission of Alaska approved a 42% interim increase in the base cost of wholesale power paid to Chugach Electric Association. MEA purchases almost all of its power needs from Anchorage-based Chugach under a contract that expires at the end of 2014. FBI Warns of New Fraudulent Credit Card Scheme »Kevin C. Donovan, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, State of Alaska, advises that Alaskans may be targeted for a new variation of a fraudulent scheme concerning credit cards. Under this new scheme, victims receive a text message on their cell phones stating their cards had been de-activated and to call a 907 area code number to re-activate.
