MEA News:

Our Community

Matanuska Electric Association has been a community-minded electric utility since its start in 1941. The cooperative itself is involved in many local groups and organizations, in addition to the time and money donated to area charities individually by our employees.

Some of the organizations with which MEA is involved are the Chambers of Commerce of Big Lake, Houston, Willow, Chugiak-Eagle River, Wasilla and Palmer. MEA works with local chambers of commerce to improve our local community. MEA also facilitates local fund-raising events, such as festivals that serve to raise money for the chambers of commerce, which in turn is used to boost economic development.

MEA also has made direct donations from time to time, in accordance with our donations policy, to organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, the Mat-Su Youth Football Association, Little Leagues in Palmer and Knik, Wasilla Youth Baseball, and for "grad blasts" (high school graduation celebrations). MEA has sponsored city "clean-ups" in Houston, Wasilla and Palmer and the annual Eagle River clean-up. The co-op also has donated hundreds of bottles of water to community walk-run fund-raisers.

MEA supports community activities. However, because of the number of requests received, MEA can only consider written requests. They should be addressed to MEA Donations Committee, P.O. Box 2929, Palmer, Alaska 99645.
