Are you a young person or group in our service area who loves to sing or play an instrument? Our second annual MEA’s Got Talent competition will see one lucky winner perform the National Anthem at two local MEA events this summer – the Chinook’s Kids Day (June 28) and the Mat-Su Miner’s Kids Day (July 22). The winning individual or group will also receive $100.

Who can enter MEA’s Got Talent 2017?

All entrants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be the dependent of an active MEA member whose primary residence is in MEA’s service territory. If a group, all members of the group must be dependents of an active MEA member.
  • Must be under the age of 18 at time of performance.
  • Must have parental approval (see Entry Form).
  • Must not be a former MEA’s Got Talent winner. Former finalists are still welcome to submit entries.

How to enter?

  • Entrants may be either a solo or group performance.
  • Entrants may submit up to one (1) solo entry and one (1) group entry.
  • Entrants should submit a video of them or their group performing the National Anthem to MEA (contact information on Entry Form) any of the following ways:
    • Drop off or mail an electronic version (DVD or flash drive) of your video at any of our MEA offices.
    • Email a link of a video you have uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.
    • Share your video through a cloud sharing network such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
  • If you do not have video capability, please contact Kierre Childers to schedule filming at our Palmer office.
  • All entries must be received by Friday, June 9 at noon.
  • MEA will confirm receipt once we have received your entry. If you do not hear from us within three days, please contact MEA.
  • MEA reserves the right to disqualify any content deemed inappropriate.

How will the winner be determined?

  • MEA will upload the top 3 finalists to our YouTube Channel – Matanuska Electric Association on Monday, June 12, where members will be able to vote for their favorite submission.
  • Only likes acquired to videos on our YouTube Channel will be counted towards the contest.
  • The entry with the most likes by Thursday, June 15, at noon will be deemed the winner.
  • In the event of a tie the contest will continue until Thursday, June 15, at 2 p.m.
  • If there is still a tie at 2 p.m., a panel of MEA judges will determine the winner.
  • The entry with the second-most likes will be deemed the second place finisher, and so on.
  • The winner will be expected to perform the National Anthem at MEA Kids Day Events on June 28 (Chugiak) and July 22 (Palmer). Event details will be distributed to the winning performer after the competition has completed.
  • In the event the winner is unable to perform at one or both of the events, the second place finisher will be asked to perform.
