Member Notice: Electronic Payment Transaction Description Issue

Some MEA members may notice an unfamiliar name, "Johnnie.davis," appearing in the transaction description for recent electronic payments made through SmartHub.

We want to assure members that:

  • Your payment is legitimate.
  • MEA has not been hacked, and your account information remains secure.
  • This is the result of a payment gateway software issue introduced during a recent vendor system update that is affecting multiple utilities across the country.

The issue appears to impact some credit card payments made through SmartHub beginning Monday, June 22. While the transaction description is incorrect, the payment itself was processed correctly and applied to your MEA account.

Our software vendor is actively working to correct the issue, and future transaction descriptions will be restored once a fix is implemented.
